CHALLENGING & REWARDING OPPORTUNITY: ORCHARD MANAGER AT APRICOT LANE FARMS

Apricot Lane Farms is a farm integrated within a reawakened ecosystem.  With a team that makes the seemingly impossible possible, the farm regeneratively grows more than 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables, and raises sheep’s, cows, pigs, chickens and ducks with care and respect while working in harmony (or a comfortable level of disharmony) within a dynamic ecosystem.  The farm is seeking a professional and experienced Orchard Manager.  Communication and teamwork are vital to this position. The candidate must be independent, motivated, and a self-starter.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Direct and coordinate the overall operations of CCOF / Demeter Certified Orchards - orchard development, irrigation, application/pest management, pruning, grafting, and harvesting
  • Manage a team of regular and seasonal employees
  • Responsible for leadership, hiring, training, and coaching in a harmonious working climate while maximizing employee morale and productivity
  • Understand and train employees in Policy, Procedures and Safety
  • Establish goals, direction and vision while strategically planning all projects with Farm Leadership
  • Monitor equipment usage and identify improvements, changes and/or replacements
  • Budget and manage orchard operations to ensure efficient and profitable operations and ongoing fiscal responsibilities
  • Plan and oversee future development in conjunction with Farm Leadership
  • Monitor and enforce all standards related to both food safety and employee safety to ensure compliance with all county, state and federal laws
  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management and staff

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an agricultural field of study, such as soil science, agronomy, or equivalent experience
  • Five years’ experience in farm/orchard production
  • Knowledge of tree fruit production practices
  • Certified Orchard Management skills (A plus!)
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Mechanical aptitude, irrigation, spray and pruning knowledge
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving records
  • Tractor / Equipment Driving
  • Must be able to handle hot and cold days working in the elements.

Compensation/Salary:

  • $70-85,000K
