Opportunities to Farm at Loch Arthur (south west Scotland)

Are you looking for a holistic, ecologically rewarding, mixed farming role where you’ll work productively alongside nature?

We have some rare opportunities to join - and lead - the farm team at Loch Arthur Community, near Dumfries. These roles have become available due to succession planning. There are several different roles that would suit individuals at different stages of their farming career. We would welcome application from individuals, couples or people who would like to work together.

A Person to Lead on our Farms

Could you lead in one or both of our two organic, biodynamic farms? The ideal candidate will have practical farming skills and experience, and be able to demonstrate aptitude in a management role.

You should have knowledge and experience, or a keen interest in, organic, biodynamic or nature-based farming.  You will also need to enjoy working within a shared Community setting and alongside people with a range of different abilities.

This is a unique opportunity to take custodianship of land that has been cared for biodynamically for nearly 40 years, and to help shape the future of farming at Loch Arthur.  There will be a transitional hand-over period where you will learn about our farms - one dairy, and the other beef and sheep - from our outgoing Farm Manager.

This is a beautiful and enriching landscape to work within, and your role will oversee the livestock, land, woodland, habitat and food production at Loch Arthur. You will also create an environment where people with a range of abilities can develop skills in their work on the land. This position may suit someone interested in becoming part of our Community, and it can also be offered on an employed basis.  In this case we are happy to discuss the appropriate rate of pay with candidates who wish to be considered.

Farm Team Members

We are looking for people to join our farm team, ideally on a live in basis, but we welcome applications from anyone with some experience of growing, food production, livestock management, or habitat and environmental management.

Working as part of the farm team is a hugely rewarding role. As well as feeding our Community of around 80 people, you will be producing high-quality meat for sale through our farm shop and local markets and supplying milk to our creamery, whose sought-after products are sold nationally. You will also be supporting people with a range of abilities to develop skills in their work on the land.

To Apply

We are concerned to find the right person for these roles and so will set a closing date when we feel we have sufficient applicants. Please apply promptly if you think this role would be right for you.
